I think this song does indeed appeal to me as it seems to have been a very popular at that time due to the importance of the lyrics and the sound as it is catchy. The message of the song is a sort of protest against a group of people or a rise against something.
Message: the song is a criticism of militaristic culture.
Commercial appeal: this has good commercial appeal if you over look the message of the lyrics. The bass line is catchy and the drums have bounce.
They song refers to many events in war by talking about soldiers marching and only making songs for eachother. I think it’s saying the soldiers protect them but there are still bad things in the world.
Popularity: this songs pretty appealing to me, it sounds like something I’d sing in my car on the way home, so yes it’s appealing
Message: the army is coming to their town and they must be careful?
I can see why this would be a popular song in the 1980’s with the Vietnam war recently ending. The message is basically talking about how the soldiers fight our battles so we can live the way we do. They sing lyrics like “Let’s not look the other way” which I’m guessing is a way of telling audiences to give the soldiers thanks.
The song does not seem like it would have much commercial appeal, it’s very overwhelming with how many instruments are played along with the vocals and is seemingly repetitive. To me, the message seems to be to not forget the struggles of others or disregard what someone has been through, but instead try to understand them.
It has a catchy toon and seems like it could have commercial appeal. The message of the song seems to be not to ignore our soldiers and their potential problems.
Message of the song has to do with soldiers/protesting and their experience.
The song is good for commercial use, very appealing.. I enjoyed it as well since it’s very upbeat.
The song may be good for a commercial. I think the message is from a girl in love to a man who is in the army or something like that. I didn’t understand the lyrics very well.
I can see why this song was a commerical success because this is what popular music sounded like in the ’80s, it had a catchy chorus with a simple beat. The message is discussing war and how they are afraid of it.
I believe it is a critique to the military and how they try to convince themselves that they are good men. The song itself had a catchy beat but also had some intentional mysterious vibes.
I personally wouldn’t listen to this song although it is catchy.
The song is about the soldiers going to war, and it seeming like everything was fine back home when it really wasn’t.
This song does appeal to me since it is incredibly beat heavy, almost like a military march, probably about the Vietnam War. And it sounds as if they’re referring to soldiers perhaps generating tunes to entertain themselves in such harsh conditions, as a distraction from possible death. And as civilians, we wouldn’t normally follow along since we don’t have to face such a circumstance.

1. Sounds like this is about civilians of war preparing for what is to come.
2. This is around the time of dissipating tension during the Cold War so I can see the appeal for people to like this song.
